ABTs 2nd Annual Golf Tournament

ABT’s “18 Shades of Green” Golf Tournament at Raccoon Creek

ABT recently celebrated their 2nd Annual scramble golf tournament at Raccoon Creek Golf Course.  We had a great showing with 40 players this year and a fantastic mix of employees, clients, and vendors.

The Golf Tournaments were started last year as a team bonding and culture building experience. We enjoy getting everyone outside of the office to for goal rewards, team building, and holiday celebrations. Our partnership began last year with Raccoon Creek.

We’d like to take a moment to recognize the vendors that supported us:  Xerox XFS, Leaf, Biscom, Katum, First Citizens Bank, Macquarie, and Xerox. This tournament would not exist without their support!

We play a Scramble Format

In a scramble golf tournament, you and your team will embark on an exciting round of golf where collaboration and strategy are key. Here’s a second-person description of how it works, along with the rules:

1. Team Formation: Gather your fellow golfers to form a team of usually four players. This format encourages golfers of varying skill levels to play together and have a great time.

2. Teaming Up: Once your team is ready, head to the designated starting hole at the golf course. Each team will typically be assigned a starting hole, and you’ll tee off from there.

3. Tee Shot: On the first hole, all four members of your team tee off. After seeing where each ball lands, you’ll choose the best shot among them. This is the shot your team will play from. Remember, the goal is to pick the most advantageous position.

4. Ball Placement: Once the best tee shot is selected, all team members will move their golf balls to that spot. This means that you’ll all hit your next shots from the same location, which makes the game more manageable and enjoyable for everyone.

5. Continued Collaboration: On every subsequent shot, the same process applies. You’ll choose the best ball among your team’s shots, and all players will move their balls to that position. This continues until the ball is holed.

6. Putting: When you reach the green, you’ll putt as usual. However, it’s important to note that there are often rules regarding the distance from which you can place your ball on the green without any closer to the hole. Usually, you’ll be required to place your ball within a putter’s length from the selected ball.

7. Scoring: Your team’s score for each hole is the total number of strokes it took to get the ball into the hole. The objective is to complete the round with the fewest strokes possible.

8. Handicaps: Depending on the tournament, your team might receive a handicap, which is an adjustment to level the playing field if there are significant skill differences among teams. This handicap will be applied to your final score.

9. Course Rules: Standard golf course rules apply, including out-of-bounds, hazards, and penalties. Each golf course may have specific local rules that you should be aware of.

10. The Winner: The team with the lowest total score at the end of the round is declared the winner. Scramble tournaments can be competitive or casual, depending on the event, so enjoy the camaraderie and the thrill of playing as a team.

Scramble golf tournaments offer a fantastic way to enjoy the sport with friends or colleagues, combining individual skills into a collective effort. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just starting, the scramble format ensures that everyone has a chance to contribute to the team’s success and have a great time on the golf course.

The Golf Tournament Theme

Every year we have a theme and teams are encouraged to dress up and come up with a creative team name – mission accomplished.   This year, we accepted the challenge to tee up to “!8 Shades of Green” a clear play on the book series “Fifty Shades of Grey”.  Less scandalous and more entertain, our teams took the opportunity to dress us in Shamrocks, Argyle, and more

The golf tournament was originally designed to Team Build our employees with other people in different departments, Sales – Service – Management – Administration. One from each created the foursome and this year we integrated in the vendors and clients with great success.

With the support of our vendors, we were able to award prizes for best and worst scores, longest drive for both men and women, closest to the pin for both men and women, and the grand prize was for a golf trip for 2, in Breckenridge.

Our clients had a great time, and it was a perfect excuse to get out of the office and share time with ABT employees on a completely different level.  Here is a quote from one of our clients; “it was fun, well organized, and great to interact with more ABT folks and their Vendors.”

The future looks bright for years to come as we grow our company and this tournament to a very successful Charity Tournament supporting an organization with financial love.

We look forward to hopefully seeing you next year!
